چکیده

Previous results of the comparison of colors given by indicators in alkaline buffers and pure aqueous sodium hydroxide have been repeated and confirmed. The electrometric determinations show that the sodium hydroxide was pure and gave theoretical values for the concentration of hydroxyl ion. The slight but distinct neutralising effect of dilute solutions of alkali has been measured electrometrically and the allowances to be made are recorded graphically. It is found that whereas alizarin yellow G, tropaeolin O and thymol violet may be used without appreciable error (in accordance with our previous communication) the grave discrepancies remain for phenolphthalein, o-cresol phthalein and thymol blue and phenol red which must be ascribed to salt error in the alkaline buffer itself.

The Salt Error of Indicators Caused by Standard Alkaline Buffers Themselves

1. It is found that with many indicators there is a big discrepancy between the true alkalinities or pH values of solutions of pure sodium hydroxide and of standard alkaline buffers which give the same actual colour. This discrepancy must be ascribed to salt error caused by the buffer itself and exceeds in the most extreme case two whole units of pH; that is, an error of 100 fold in determining...

Simultaneous determinations of liver- and bone-type alkaline phosphatase by curve-fitting of inhibition kinetic data. I. Development and evaluation of an absorbance-based method.

We describe an approach for the simultaneous determination of isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1) based on the kinetic behavior of inhibition reactions. Data for absorbance vs time, collected while enzymes are being inhibited, are fitted with suitable models to obtain results related to activities of the individual isoenzymes. The primary focus is on two-component mixtures of the bo...

Application of Central Composite Design for Optimization of Coacervative Extraction of Cu(II) Using Anionic Surfactant

The aim of this work was to develop a new and simple coacervative extraction method for the preconcentration and spectrophotometric determination of Cu(II) in water samples. Dithizone was used as the chelating agent while an anionic surfactant, namely sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), was used as extracting agent at room temperature. Central composite design (CCD) based on response surface methodol...

The Effect of reclamation of salt affected lands to Cropland on soil quality indicators

In this study the effects of land use change from salt affected land to cropland on soil quality indicators were studied in Chahafzal region, Yazd province, central Iran. Composite soil samples from 0-30 and 30-60 cm depths of saline and cultivated land were taken. Soil particle size distribution, calcium carbonate, Available water capacity (AWC), Electrical conductivity (ECe), Soil reaction (p...

Efficiency of Spectral Indices Derived from Landsat-8 Images of Maharloo Lake and Its Surrounding Rangelands

Maharloo Lake is one of the salty lakes located in the southeast of Fars province, Iran. Presence of salt domes has a significant role in its salinity. Magnesium-sodium chloride and sodium sulfate are dominant salts of the lake. Due to the drying up of lake, widespread lands surrounding the area are exposed to secondary salinity. It seems necessary to investigate the changes to find salinity le...
